Nelson Maths for Victoria VELS Edition ensures mathematical success with creative and stimulating open-ended tasks appropriate to students’ levels and needs. The new series supports the teaching approaches of the Early/Middle Years Numeracy Program and the Principles of Learning and Teaching (PoLT).
Within the VELS, mathematics is one of the domains of the Discipline-based Learning Strand.
Nelson Maths for Victoria covers all the dimensions of the mathematics domains and uses modelling and problem solving in each of the units. This series develops algorithms for computation, the formulation of problems, construction and testing of conjectures and the development of abstraction for further investigation, all of which are identified as vital components of school mathematics in VELS.
Nelson Maths for Victoria also meets the five educational principles for VELS.
Nelson Maths for Victoria Independent and Self-assessment Task Books
The Nelson Maths for Victoria Independent and Self-Assessment Task Books feature stimulating and open-ended activities through which students can investigate tasks at their own level of understanding.

Nelson Maths for Victoria Planning and Asessment CD makes planning easier and saves teachers valuable time!
The Nelson Maths for Victoria Planning and Assessment Software is a whole-school based planning and assessment tool that enables teachers to keep assessment profiles of individual students, as well as view records of the whole class. Teachers can also plan their weekly, term and yearly maths programs on screen simply and efficiently.
Features include
- Victorian Essential Learning Standards (VELS) and Progression Points are linked to both the assessment profiles and the planners
